Getting Started
Yoga Therapy uses the best parts of thousands of years of yoga knowledge applied to an individual’s situation for purposes of treating a specific condition or ailment. If you are reading this, you may have already exhausted much of what is offered by western allopathic medicine. If you are looking for help or something to supplement your current treatment, read on.
To begin Yoga Therapy with Pamela, send her an email. Explain your interest, describing your condition or issue. Pamela will contact you and provide theappropriate forms to assist in her assessment. You will also need to sign a release/waiver before your assessment is conducted. She will share with you the costs of treatment and determine with you the best location where treatment can be provided. All clients will complete two brief online assessments to determine your ayurvedic disposition to help Pamela individualize your treatment plan.
At your first session she will conduct an in-depth review of your health background and concerns. Subsequently, she may require your authorization to collaborate with other health care professionals who work with you. Assessments will be made of your anatomical posture, range of motion and breathing capability. Movements during treatment will be done gently with special considerations for your body type, age, injuries and abilities.
Pamela will follow up with an initial treatment plan which could include but is not limited to breathwork, poses, affirmations and relaxation techniques. Self- treatment is always a goal and your plan will state a specific set of movements and the desired timing. Yoga therapy is powerful, but slow. It requires you, the client, to follow a prescribed routine with serious intention to improve your condition. Pamela is the guide and coach, but you are the manager, in charge of the process and therefore the outcome.
Pamela will monitor your progress and if necessary, modify and enhance your plan and practice. Depending upon the severity of your condition and the progress you are making, you may choose to have regular, hands-on intervention by Pamela until the condition is mitigated.
